Traumatic recurrences and the elasticity of psychoanalytic tools in working with children and parents

This paper seeks to reflect upon the configurations of the analytical field with children and their parents, considering the challenges posed by psychoanalytic tools to address the recurrence of traumatic aspects of the notion of the infantile in its unfolding and re-introductions throughout life. Thus, the role of traumatic scars, still alive, interfering with the constitution of the psyche, is emphasized both at the intrapsychic and intersubjective levels, accentuated by this moment of crisis. In this context, reflections are presented about the role of the analyst and our therapeutic tools. The quality of living flesh that is manifested in the analytical setting marked by the potency of the transference, refers both to the delicacy of contact in the face of primitive sufferings, as well as to the possibility of constant rearrangements and regenerations of the psychic tissue, even in a situation of adversity, such as the 2020 pandemic. A clinical case is presented favouring associations with the concepts of traumatic progression and identification with the aggressor proposed by Ferenczi. It is intended to address and understand different levels of mental functioning which may emerge within the psychoanalytic contact with the children themselves and with their parents.
