The negative and negation in psychoanalysis

André Green's article promotes and systematizes, inspired by freudian thought, a grammar of the negative in psychoanalysis, highlighting the various resonances that orbit around the no — and its potential configurations — in the fields of the psyche, language, and social reality. By drawing on cultural and artistic creations throughout the text, particularly literary works, the author enriches the capacity to think psychoanalytically about the figures of negativity. This allows for renewed horizons for understanding human suffering in contemporary times, with undeniable gains for the immanent dialectic in the analyst's work: that which exists between psychoanalysis and clinical thought. The critical sensitivity of the writing thus presents us, through the interconnection of the intrapsychic with intersubjectivity, between drives and objects, with the effects of multiple negativities on the constitution and structuring of the subject, without neglecting the implication of their incidences for the benefit of psychoanalytic theory and clinical practice.
