Abstract

The objetive of this paper is to examine the enduring perception of women and femininity as a taboo in contemporary culture, despite shifts in social representations over time. It is explored through Freudian texts, and taking examples from some moments in history and the current situation, how women occupy spaces considered taboo from a male perspective. Man's perception of women is determined by fear of certain manifestations of the feminine. Freud characterizes these expressions as a threat of castration, while Simone de Beauvoir views them as a social construct that positions women as the Other within culture. In conclusion, it is proposed that within a patriarchal system that operates as a place of power, any other identification that is assumed to be different will have a negative, restrictive, exclusive, prohibitive qualification.
